Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior or Principal Consultant specialising in air quality assessment and atmospheric dispersion modelling to support environmental consultancy projects across the UK.

The successful candidate will deliver technical air quality and odour assessments in support of planning applications, environmental permitting and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA). The role involves technical analysis, dispersion modelling, report preparation and collaboration with multidisciplinary environmental teams.

This position will suit an experienced consultant capable of managing air quality projects while supporting junior staff and maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality technical work across a range of process safety projects.

Typical responsibilities may include:

• Managing and delivering Air Quality Assessments to support planning applications and environmental permitting
• Completing Air Quality and Odour Assessments including site visits, technical data analysis and detailed reporting
• Preparing Air Quality and Odour Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)
• Undertaking atmospheric dispersion modelling using recognised modelling software
• Carrying out modelling using ADMS and ADMS Roads
• Conducting specialist assessments including ammonia dispersion modelling and fire dispersion modelling
• Producing air quality mapping and spatial analysis using QGIS or equivalent GIS platforms
• Interpreting environmental monitoring data and emissions data for modelling purposes
• Supporting emerging air quality assessment areas across industrial and infrastructure sectors
• Liaising with regulators, planners and multidisciplinary environmental teams
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and internal technical specialists

Candidate Requirements

Candidates should demonstrate a strong technical background in process safety, engineering risk management or a related discipline.

The successful individual will ideally possess:

• A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Chemical Engineering, Geography or a related discipline
• Professional chartership (or similar) would be advantageous
• Membership of the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM) would be viewed favourable
• Proven experience delivering air quality assessments within an environmental consultancy

• Experience preparing air quality assessments for planning applications and environmental permitting

• Practical experience conducting atmospheric dispersion modelling

• Experience using ADMS and ADMS Roads

• Experience producing air quality maps using QGIS or equivalent GIS software

• Experience preparing EIA air quality chapters

• Strong technical report writing and analytical skills

• Experience undertaking site visits, data analysis and environmental assessment reporting

• Ability to manage projects and communicate effectively with clients and technical teams
• A full UK driving licence

Working Arrangements

The role can be based from one of several UK offices with hybrid working available. Some travel will be required for project work, including occasional multi-day site visits where overnight stays may be necessary.

Our client is seeking Senior / Principal Environmental Consultants to support and lead the delivery of environmental permitting and regulatory compliance projects across the UK.

The role focuses on coordinating environmental permitting workstreams, delivering technical environmental assessments and supporting industrial and infrastructure clients with regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will work within multidisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists, contributing to complex environmental consultancy projects.

Key Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities may include:

• Coordinating delivery of environmental permitting projects across the UK
• Preparing and managing environmental permit applications and variations under relevant regulatory regimes
• Undertaking environmental impact assessments using tools such as D1 Calculations, H1 Software Tool, SCAIL and ADMS
• Conducting Best Available Techniques (BAT) reviews of plant, equipment and industrial processes
• Managing regulatory liaison and negotiation with organisations including SEPA, the Environment Agency (EA), NIEA and EPA
• Preparing high-quality technical reports and supporting documentation
• Supporting project budgeting, proposal preparation and commercial delivery
• Contributing to business development and client relationship management
• Coordinating work across multidisciplinary engineering, scientific and environmental teams
• Mentoring and supporting the development of junior consultants

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong experience within environmental permitting and consultancy environments.

Candidates should ideally possess:

• A BSc or MSc (Honours or master’s degree) in Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Civil or Environmental Engineering, physical sciences or a related discipline
• Experience delivering environmental permitting projects within consultancy or industrial environments
• Experience preparing permit applications under IED / PPC / EPR / IPC frameworks
• Experience undertaking environmental impact assessments using D1, H1, SCAIL and ADMS tools
• Experience conducting BAT assessments and regulatory compliance reviews
• Strong understanding of regulatory processes and environmental legislation
• Experience liaising with regulators including SEPA, EA, NIEA and EPA
• Strong technical report writing and analytical capability
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
• A full UK driving licence with clean record
• Professional chartership would be advantageous

The role focuses on delivering technical environmental assessments and regulatory support for industrial facilities and development projects. Work will typically involve environmental permitting, air quality assessment, water management, environmental noise assessment and hydrological analysis.

The successful candidate will contribute to multidisciplinary environmental projects while providing technical input into planning applications, regulatory submissions and environmental compliance programmes.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute to environmental engineering and regulatory compliance projects, providing technical support across a range of environmental disciplines.

Typical responsibilities may include:

• Supporting environmental permitting applications under relevant regulatory frameworks including Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) regimes via PPC / EPR / IPC permitting systems
• Liaising with environmental regulators including organisations such as SEPA, the Environment Agency, NIEA and EPA
• Conducting air quality impact assessments using recognised methodologies including D1 and H1 risk assessment frameworks
• Undertaking air dispersion modelling using recognised software tools such as the CERC ADMS suite
• Specifying air and water pollution control strategies and technologies in accordance with Best Available Techniques (BAT) principles
• Supporting the design and implementation of industrial wastewater treatment solutions
• Undertaking water management assessments, including water efficiency auditing of industrial and commercial facilities
• Delivering resource efficiency and waste minimisation assessments
• Completing environmental noise assessments for industrial facilities using BS 4142 methodologies
• Supporting construction and development noise assessments in accordance with BS 5228
• Undertaking hydrology assessments including Flood Risk Assessments (FRA)
• Supporting multidisciplinary environmental and infrastructure projects across planning and development sectors
• Preparing technical environmental reports and supporting documentation for planning and regulatory submissions
• Collaborating with clients, regulators and multidisciplinary engineering teams

Candidate Requirements

Candidates should demonstrate a strong technical background in environmental engineering or a related discipline, combined with consultancy or industrial project experience.

The successful individual will ideally possess:

• A degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline
• Experience working within environmental consultancy or industrial environmental compliance
• Experience supporting environmental permitting under PPC / EPR / IPC regimes
• Experience conducting air quality impact assessments and dispersion modelling
• Familiarity with CERC ADMS modelling software
• Knowledge of Best Available Techniques (BAT) principles for pollution control
• Experience in water management, wastewater treatment or resource efficiency
• Experience supporting environmental noise assessments using BS 4142 and/or BS 5228
• Understanding of hydrology and flood risk assessment
• Strong technical report writing and analytical capability
• Ability to liaise with clients, regulators and multidisciplinary technical teams
• A full UK driving licence
