Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior or Principal Consultant specialising in air quality assessment and atmospheric dispersion modelling to support environmental consultancy projects across the UK.

The successful candidate will deliver technical air quality and odour assessments in support of planning applications, environmental permitting and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA). The role involves technical analysis, dispersion modelling, report preparation and collaboration with multidisciplinary environmental teams.

This position will suit an experienced consultant capable of managing air quality projects while supporting junior staff and maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality technical work across a range of process safety projects.

Typical responsibilities may include:

• Managing and delivering Air Quality Assessments to support planning applications and environmental permitting
• Completing Air Quality and Odour Assessments including site visits, technical data analysis and detailed reporting
• Preparing Air Quality and Odour Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)
• Undertaking atmospheric dispersion modelling using recognised modelling software
• Carrying out modelling using ADMS and ADMS Roads
• Conducting specialist assessments including ammonia dispersion modelling and fire dispersion modelling
• Producing air quality mapping and spatial analysis using QGIS or equivalent GIS platforms
• Interpreting environmental monitoring data and emissions data for modelling purposes
• Supporting emerging air quality assessment areas across industrial and infrastructure sectors
• Liaising with regulators, planners and multidisciplinary environmental teams
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and internal technical specialists

Candidate Requirements

Candidates should demonstrate a strong technical background in process safety, engineering risk management or a related discipline.

The successful individual will ideally possess:

• A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Chemical Engineering, Geography or a related discipline
• Professional chartership (or similar) would be advantageous
• Membership of the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM) would be viewed favourable
• Proven experience delivering air quality assessments within an environmental consultancy

• Experience preparing air quality assessments for planning applications and environmental permitting

• Practical experience conducting atmospheric dispersion modelling

• Experience using ADMS and ADMS Roads

• Experience producing air quality maps using QGIS or equivalent GIS software

• Experience preparing EIA air quality chapters

• Strong technical report writing and analytical skills

• Experience undertaking site visits, data analysis and environmental assessment reporting

• Ability to manage projects and communicate effectively with clients and technical teams
• A full UK driving licence

Working Arrangements

The role can be based from one of several UK offices with hybrid working available. Some travel will be required for project work, including occasional multi-day site visits where overnight stays may be necessary.
